Turia: hydraulic tradition that gives soul to the kitchen

This kitchen project, designed by Brazilian architect Pedro Junqueira, demonstrates how a ceramic wall covering can completely define the identity of a space. Within a clean architectural framework and contemporary furniture in neutral tones, the true visual focal point is the Turia tile—a hydraulic-inspired piece that reinterprets tradition through a modern lens.

The Turia model stands out for its geometric-floral ornamental pattern, inspired by classic Valencian hydraulic floors. Rich in symmetry and graphic detail, the composition creates a continuous visual rhythm that turns both the main wall and the island front into decorative surfaces with strong personality. The balanced and elegant design adds depth without overwhelming the space, achieving perfect harmony between decoration and architecture.

The color palette enhances the project’s calm Mediterranean atmosphere. These tones interact beautifully with the natural wood of the auxiliary furniture and the purity of the white countertop, creating a warm and sophisticated contrast. The ceramic does not compete with the other materials; instead, it unifies and gives them meaning.

One of the project’s most successful design choices is the application of Turia tile on the front of the island. This decision transforms a functional element into a sculptural feature. Integrated lighting beneath the countertop highlights the graphic relief of the design, casting soft shadows that intensify the ornamental character of the tile. The island becomes the visual and emotional centerpiece of the kitchen.

On the wall, the tile creates a ceramic tapestry effect that envelops the space. The repetition of the pattern provides coherence and continuity, reinforcing a sense of order. Thanks to its hydraulic inspiration, Turia introduces a timeless, handcrafted touch that connects with tradition without sacrificing contemporary design.

The result is a balanced space where structural minimalism is enriched by the expressive strength of the tile. The Turia hydraulic tile is not simply a wall covering, but the true language of the design—bringing identity, reinterpreted tradition, and Mediterranean elegance that transforms this kitchen into a warm and sophisticated environment.
