Sophisticated contrasts in a contemporary interior

This full renovation project of a private home, carried out by Carla Carer, explores the expressive power of ceramics as a central element of design. Through materials with a strong visual identity, the home combines contemporary textures, integrated lighting, and warm finishes to create elegant and sophisticated spaces.

In this project by the Brazilian architect Carer, two ceramic pieces stand out in particular: Diurne Oxide, which clads the fireplace in the living room, and Multishapes Black, which defines the bedroom headboard.

In the living area, the ceramic cladding of the fireplace becomes the visual focal point, with our Diurne Oxide piece as the protagonist. This porcelain tile features a finish inspired by oxidized metals, with deep nuances and a rich visual texture reminiscent of industrial surfaces aged by time. Its appearance brings character and sophistication, transforming a functional element such as the fireplace into a true architectural feature.

Thanks to its large format, it creates a continuous and elegant surface that wraps around the vertical structure of the fireplace. The warm metallic tones interact with the indirect lighting and with the warmth of the wood that covers the wall and ceiling, creating a perfect balance between modernity and comfort. The light highlights the nuances of the oxidized finish, producing soft reflections that change throughout the day and add depth to the overall composition.

In the bedroom, the Multishapes Black cladding takes center stage, used to create a ceramic headboard with strong visual impact. These three-dimensional pieces generate a geometric play of reliefs that transforms the wall into a sculptural surface. The repetition of the pattern creates a dynamic effect where light and shadow constantly interact, adding movement and depth to the space.

The black finish intensifies the contemporary character of the bedroom while bringing a sober and sophisticated elegance. Far from feeling heavy, the relief of the pieces captures the light and produces contrasts that visually enrich the wall. The vertical lighting integrated on the sides of the headboard further enhances this effect, highlighting each plane and edge of the three-dimensional design.

Overall, this project demonstrates how ceramics can transcend their traditional function to become a true architectural resource. Diurne Oxide brings a sophisticated industrial aesthetic to the living room, while Multishapes Black introduces volume and dynamism to the bedroom. Two different proposals that share the same idea: using ceramics as the main language of contemporary design.
