Mediterranean ceramics are born from the relationship between earth, water, fire and craftsmanship. Alquería recaptures this essence and brings it into contemporary interior design through a collection that finds its beauty in the richness of its surfaces, the variations in the glaze and the distinctive character of handcrafted ceramics.
Inspired by glazed clay and traditional Mediterranean architecture, Alquería reinterprets the character of handcrafted ceramic pieces in a 7.5×23 cm format, an elongated proportion that enhances the character of the small format and expands its compositional possibilities. Its palette of five colours — Cal, Canela, Laguna, Aguamar and Syrah — explores some of the shades most closely associated with the Mediterranean landscape: from lime white and warm earthy tones to the greens and blues of the water and the deep tones of wine. A range designed to allow each colour to be used individually or combined with different shades to create compositions with greater chromatic richness.
The surface is one of the defining elements of Alquería’s personality. Its textured mould creates subtle irregularities over which the glossy crystalline glaze settles with varying density. As a result, the colour takes on different intensities within the same piece, while light reveals reflections, transparencies and areas of greater depth. This is complemented by 30 different faces and extensive graphic variation, reducing repetition and enhancing the natural appearance of the overall surface.
This combination of texture, gloss and variation recaptures the visual richness of handcrafted ceramics while interpreting it through a contemporary aesthetic. Each piece has its own individual nuances and, when combined across the surface, creates a dynamic wall covering that changes with the light and brings a sense of authenticity to the space.
