INSIDE 111 – Artsy Apartment

Sometimes, a single material is enough to define the character of a space. In the kitchen of this apartment, our Grace mosaic covers the backsplash, transforming this surface into one of the main visual focal points of the project. Its golden metallic finish creates both contrast and dialogue with the surrounding materials.

Contrasts, materials and reflections in a kitchen full of personality

The INSIDE 111 – Artsy Apartment interior design project, designed by Kika Atelier and located in Belgrade, Serbia, is built around a carefully curated combination of materials to create a contemporary apartment with a distinctive personality. Dark tones, stone surfaces, wood and metallic details coexist in an interior where every finish contributes to creating an elegant and immersive atmosphere.

The kitchen particularly reflects this interplay of contrasts. The cabinetry combines white and black fronts with a dark stone countertop crossed by light veining, while the wood used in the dining area introduces a warm, natural counterpoint. Against this backdrop, golden details act as a common thread, bringing light to the overall composition.

It is precisely on the kitchen backsplash that our Grace mosaic takes centre stage. Its golden metallic finish transforms a functional surface into a decorative element capable of defining the identity of the space. The regular arrangement of the pieces introduces rhythm and texture, while their reflections create different nuances depending on how the light falls on the surface.

The linear lighting positioned beneath the upper cabinets further enhances the effect of this PVD-coated mosaic. As the light falls directly onto the surface, it emphasises the mosaic’s reflections and creates an ever-changing appearance that contrasts with the matt black cabinetry and the depth of the countertop.

In this way, the Grace gold mosaic does more than simply protect the kitchen backsplash. It becomes an interior design feature that connects the different metallic finishes throughout the project and brings warmth to a composition dominated by neutral and dark tones. The project demonstrates how ceramic can be used to introduce character into a contemporary kitchen without needing to dominate the entire space. A carefully selected detail is enough to transform the perception of the whole and create a focal point where material, light and colour work in balance.

The result is a sophisticated and timeless kitchen in which each material has its own language, while Grace provides the final touch of brilliance that turns the surface covering into an essential part of the interior architecture.
